Amazon FBA Guide Amazon Product Research Amazon SEO Private Label Products

Lightbox – new

Many sellers have no direction when it comes to determining keywords. Many podcasters will tell you to waste money using Amazon’s PPC Platform to determine which keywords your product converts best. They neglect to tell you that other factors contribute to the success of these campaigns. When starting a campaign on a new product, it is rare you will receive a positive return on your pay-per-click campaign. In most cases, if you spend enough, you will find which keywords, will get you a click, but it’s rare you’ll turn the customers who do click into a sale. (They may have just been attracted to your product photo…you never know.)

So in this article, I am going to break down some keyword tips mainly, how to find the best keywords for your product, how to evaluate competition for this keyword, and how to develop the best keyword strategy for your products, so you will be able to come into battle or avoid certain competitors.

But before that, let me enlighten you to a bad practice.

One Bad Practice

Do NOT put your competitor’s brand into the back office of your keywords. This will hurt your product’s conversion rate. (This also factors into how much Amazon itself will promote your listing outside of Amazon.) Customers who type a particular brand are looking for that brand; it is unlikely, your most times “new,” listing will change their mind from buying an already established product.

Find Your Keywords

Now to finding the best keywords for your product…

The first step is your top-of-mind keywords. If you were to look for your product what words would you put in the search bar on Amazon?  You want to start there with exactly what your product is whether it is a “baking mat” or an “iPhone case.”

You then want this think of alternatives to this top-of-mind keyword. If you cannot think of any, this is okay too. It’s not the end of the road. The next step is beginning to type these keywords into Amazon’s search bar (see the picture below to get what I mean…) Amazon will then start giving you suggestions; these suggestions are what other sellers are typing in. You can use this to your advantage.

Amazon PPC Platform (Not What You Think)

The next step is you want to go into Amazon’s PPC platform to see a full list of keywords Amazon thinks pertain to your product.

  1. Go to Amazon Seller Central portal
  2. Go to the Advertising tab
  3. Then click “Campaign Manager” in the ‘Advertising’ tab drop-down menu

  1. Click “Create Campaign” it will be a gold button

(If you haven’t already set up a quick listing for your potential product)

  1. Create a Campaign Name, then leave the daily budget on default and the start/end date on default. We won’t be making this campaign live anyway
  2. You then want to select “Manual Targeting” option for your “targeting type”

  1. Then click “Continue to Next Step”
  2. Keep “Ad Group 1” name and then select your product you wish to find keywords for

  1. Then under the Heading “select a bid and Provide Keywords” you will find Amazon has populated the suggested keyword box with all the phrases Amazon feels match your product.

Amazon’s keywords suggestions

  1. Record all the keywords that are relevant. (Sometimes competitors keywords and keywords that don’t directly match your product will show up)

Evaluating the Keywords Worth Going For

Amazon only gives you so much space to include keywords. So you cannot optimize your listing for every possible keyword. After all, some of these keywords may only be searched a few times a month.

The free tool you are going to use to evaluate which keywords are worth going for is Merchantwords.com. They allow five free searches a day, you can also pay $9 a month for unlimited searches.

The next step is to input keywords you found in the previous step into Merchantwords and see which keywords have the most searches. You want to pay special attention to those keywords with more than 10,000 searches a month.

Evaluating Keywords You Want to Compete For/Determining Your Strategy

Now that you have identified the keywords with significant search volume, next you will want to determine the keywords you will actually target. This brings in many factors, but the main factor should be the competitors you will face off with, should you rank for the keyword. Learn how to determine who you will be in direct competition with after ranking by clicking the article below.

Now type the keyword(s) you want to evaluate and examine the completion on the search result pages (SERPS) for each keyword. You will want to evaluate the competition on page one and two as they are your actual competition.

Just see page one of Amazon SERP for keyword “baking mat” below (click to zoom in):

If the competition for the keyword is too steep,  for example, if everyone on page one has between 750–1000+ reviews, and your product is brand new, you may want to avoid that keyword for now.  You will want to wait until your review count is higher (reviews matter on Amazon, this is the reason many Amazon PPC campaigns flat out fail, there’s not enough social proof on new products.)

You may want to strike out the keywords where the competition is too steep to focus on less competitive keyword terms. Ranking among these less competitive products may give your product the boost necessary for real success. Once your product can compete with higher competition keywords, you can re-optimize to take them on.

Call to Action

Regarding keyword tips, these are necessary for your success.

You can now find keywords and optimize to your competitive level.

However, just putting keywords in your listing won’t necessarily help you rank.

Selling on Amazon is perfect for those interested in starting a home-based business. This book is also ideal for those interested in Amazon selling, but just cannot afford the price of high-cost courses and mastermind groups.

This eBook gives you A to Z how to create a passive income using Amazon FBA. I’ve taken some of the Internet’s best courses and was able to weed out all the fluff. So you’ll know everything the pros do. I spent hours researching and testing every tactic in this book…and good news…they all work!

This, in addition to Jon Bowser’s coaching, means you cannot lose.

Too Good to Be True?

The Amazon Business Model is perfect for what’s considered the “average” Warrior Forum user or Internet Marketer:

  • No Phone Calls
  • No Talking to People (Can Be Run Entirely Email + Skype)
  • Can be Entirely Outsourced
  • No Social Networking
  • No Tricking Small Businesses

I know what you’re thinking…Everyone’s talking about Amazon, that’s because it’s a gold mine and it will only get bigger!

Here’s What You Will Learn

  • An Initial Reviews Plan
  • How to Differentiate Your Product from the Competition on Amazon

Already on Amazon?

This book is widely regarded as the Amazon Bible and the perfect Amazon course for both beginners and the advanced. If you are a seller who just can’t seem to gain traction on your products this book is for you. It will teach you how to promote your product properly without the headaches.

What Separates It From Other Guides

What is it that separates this from other guides? For starters, this guide comes with a 24-hour response email service. If you have a question shoot it to the coaching email and you will receive an answer within 24 hours.  Many similar services charge $250-500 for the very same service.  Many authors of guides like these leave students without a helping hand when they have questions outside of the book’s focus or topics that they were unable to cover.

Amazon is a big subject; there is no possible way to cover it all in a book of any size.  The topic of international shipping alone could have volumes written about it.

Where to Get it

Surprisingly, you can find this guide on Amazon, and if you have Kindle Unlimited, you can even read it completely free to you.

Amazon Update on Customer Reviews: Plain and Simple

In response to the Oct 3, 2006 Community Guidelines Change to Amazon’s Terms of Service regarding Free and Discounted Product.

Reviews and the New Policy

This article was made in response to the October 3, 2016 TOS (Terms of Service) update so be assured all the instructions are in line with these requirements, but first a brief overview of what Amazon does not want.

The email I received that I will be citing from was the third in my customer service (Amazon seller support) exchange about the TOS. I put about 75% of my trust in Amazon’s lower level customer representatives but the last email I received took almost the full 48 hours to get back to me when I usually get my answered within the first 12 hours.

So, Let’s Start with What…

Amazon’s new TOS, in regards, to reviews specifically calls out the act of giving customers free or discounted products in exchange for reviews or as payment to solicit a positive review. To put it simply this is what Amazon doesn’t want.

Now the Why?

Sellers were gaming the system. Amazon is a customer-centric platform. If Amazon’s customers cannot trust the reviews of products on their platform, then Amazon believes they will stop shopping there.

Amazon’s initial fix to this was requiring reviewers who received these free or discounted products to state they receive these products free or discounted in turn for a review. The phrase most reviewers used was some form of the phrase:

“I received this product for free/discounted in exchange for an unbiased review.”

Due to a number of recent significant launches of product like iPhone 7 cases Amazon’s customers are starting to mistrust reviews that contain “the phrase.” So because of this Amazon has retroactively started deleting reviews on products with this phrase and now with this TOS change. Amazon has decided to not only ban “the phrase” from their reviews but also the act of giving free or discounted product in exchange for reviews.

As far as what is allowed see this picture below (on the next page):

You catch that?

For Amazon, the only thing that matters is that you ask for an objective review, you can’t give free or discounted product in exchange for a positive review or in an attempt to solicit (pay for) a review.

If you check off these two boxes, the launch strategy is within Amazon’s Terms of Service.

YOU CAN GIVE A CUSTOMER A DISCOUNT AND ASK FOR AN OBJECTIVE REVIEW AT A LATER TIME, THIS IS ALLOWED.

This takes care of your launch.

The real tricky issue is our initial reviews plan.

Unfortunately, there is more to this issue…

Before you use the launch strategy in my “Secret to Success on Amazon” strategy, you will want to get some reviews, so participants in your promotion know your product is a good buy.

In fairness to my students, I can’t go over my strategies to these, but you can become one of my students for free for 30 days just see below.

Amazon FBA Guide Amazon Product Research Amazon Seller Tools Private Label Products

Amazon Seller Tools You’ll Want to Invest In [Amazon Selling Tools]

Amazon Seller Tools You’ll Want to Invest In  [Amazon Selling Tools]

When it comes to Amazon seller tools, many are overhyped or overpromise.

In this article, I will run down all the product types of Amazon seller tools, and at the end, I will give you my recommendation on which you actually need and the degree to which you need them.

Product Types

Product Finder

These tools offer to help you find the best opportunities on the platform.   For signing up with these services you sometimes may find that they will send you lists by email of good product opportunities.  These tools generally work by scouring the Amazon site based on your parameters you may only want to view products in the top 2000 of Home and Kitchen with fewer than 200 reviews.  This software will probe and find and present these products to you.

Some examples of this are: Amasuite and AMZshark

A subcategory of these product finder tools is what you could call SERP (search result page) evaluators.  These tools begin their work after you entered in a search request on Amazon. When you land on the search result page, you then activate the evaluator, usually a Chrome extension, and it will give you the estimated sales revenue, reviews, and various stats about every product that is on the page.

Some examples of these are: Junglescout and Unicorn Smasher

Keyword Trackers

Keyword trackers usually act as web applications, meaning you have to log in to the site to use the service.  Keyword trackers also require you pay monthly in most instances.  Keyword trackers function by letting you know your where your product ranks for each keyword you decide to track within the search result pages.  This function is helpful because you can figure it out if promotions have actually helped (or maybe hurt) your brands standing on the Amazon platform.

One of the benefits of keyword trackers is that you cannot only track your keywords but those of your competitors on some services.

Some examples of Keyword trackers are: AMZ tracker and AMZShark

Listing Monitors

A listing monitor alerts you to things that are happening to your listing whether they are in real-time or daily is up to you.

If your listing has been hi-jacked (a person selling a product on your listing without your consent), if you receive a good or bad review, or if your product has been pulled/suppressed on the site these products usually notify you by email or by text message. Listing monitors are helpful if you have multiple listings and need some help keeping track of what is happening on the platform.

Some examples of listing monitors are: Bindwise and ListingEagle

Feedback System

Feedback systems send automated email messages to your customers.  These emails can either have a customer service angle, like alerting the customer their product has been shipped or if they have an issue with the product, or strictly a “I need your review” angle.  These feedback systems generally promise an increase in reviews.  More times than not their actual influence in your review count will usually be minimal if it shows at all.

Some examples are: Feedbackz and FeedbackGenius

My Recommendations

Now, what you have all been waiting for my recommendations!

The only product type I highly recommend you have starting out is the SERP Evaluator. You need to know what amount of revenue to expect from an optimized product. You are running in blind sourcing a product you have no idea what the ROI could be.

As far as the actual product evaluators, you can invest in them if you want but I don’t recommend them. Frankly, the products you pull using these types of product finders could all be duds.  These products aren’t able to calculate people who may be launching you would need to still be able to analyze the product.  If you are looking for product with few reviews you could quickly look at the Movers and Shakers section or Amazon’s latest experiment the “New and Interesting” section.

Keyword trackers are nice to have when you have multiple products or are looking to expand your keyword strategy, but starting off they are mostly unnecessary.  Most times your product only needs to rank for two sometimes three keywords to the bulk of sales it will receive naturally if the listing is optimized.

Listing Monitors are not necessary, but they can become a good investment if you have multiple brands or an extensive product catalog.  I wouldn’t invest in one until you are at least four products in on Amazon.

Feedback systems I have been on record saying to never invest in these kinds of products.  I have, however, changed my stance on this subject. I am a stronger believer that all follow-up should be done manually to keep you involved in your business and on your toes. It makes sure you don’t treat Amazon as a passive income, you want to interact with your customers on some level as a business owner and here is where you do it on Amazon. I do understand at a certain sales level it does become overwhelming and you may to invest in some help in the form of a feedback system and at that point that’s completely fine.   But as I stated earlier many of these feedback systems usually say they will improve your rate of review collection, and you simply can’t take that to heart.   Manage your expectations with these kinds of services.

Want to Know the Tools I Use Personally

If you would like to know the tools I personally use, check out the note below.

Amazon FBA Guide Amazon PPC (Pay Per Click) Amazon SEO

Amazon PPC–The Real Deal

What is Amazon’s PPC Platform?

Amazon hosts what is called a Pay-per-click platform. A pay-per-click platform is usually a tool used by search engines to monetize or add revenue for the site hosting it, in our case Amazon. (The most famous Pay-per-click system is hosted by Google and is referred to as Adwords.)

Basically, marketers and brand owners (that’s you) bid on keywords potential customers would use to search for our product. The more a marketer bids on the keyword the more your product will show up to the customer and how much you bid also determines your placement on the page. (In Amazon’s case, this could be in the main search column or on the sidebar of Amazon on the right side.)

How does PPC help us, the Amazon seller? The most important factor in any search engine is ranking. Well, search engines take in to account many factors when ranking. If you are just getting started selling on Amazon or in Google’s case, you have just created a website,  it is likely you lack the factors necessary for anyone to see you in the search engine. So to even the playing field, you are allowed to bid on search terms to get a place amongst those who rank highest organically (without spending any money).

See this image below that shows where these sponsored products are on Amazon’s search result pages (click to zoom in):

All the products within the “Sponsored Section” are products being promoted by other Amazon sellers using the Amazon PPC system. If you examine the picture above you can see the power of a Amazon’s PPC program. Before you can even see the 2nd organic search result you see five product listings who paid for their spot in the search results.

Amazon PPC is Not Magic

Many Amazon sellers see Amazon PPC as a possible savior to his or her failing Amazon businesses. This is not the case, just because your listing is potentially in front of thousands of customers a day, does not mean they will pick your product over your competitor. There are other factors you absolutely have to take in to account (more on this later).

Amazon PPC is a great tool, but that is all that it is. It is not the magic pill that will get you $10,000 in sales overnight. You should see Amazon PPC as a scaling tool. Amazon PPC is used to increase profits after your product listing is already performing well. The best performance from your products with Amazon PPC will come when your product is already selling and converting customers without using it.

Additionally, Amazon PPC is not rocket science. The main reason this article is free is because I could not in full confidence make you pay for the small, but effective material one could talk about on the subject. You will find the most useful information to improve your Amazon PPC campaigns is improving the product listing itself to entice buyers to click and then buy. This will not only help your Amazon PPC campaigns, but your business as a whole.

To see a better demonstration of Amazon PPC please see the video training:

How Can I Make the Most Out of Amazon PPC?

This is a 3-parter.

Number One.

The main thing you can do that most will not tell you is to optimize your listing itself.

On Amazon, you have to remember you are right next to your competitors.

You need great product photos and a decent number of reviews to find yourself not wasting money.

Number Two.

The second thing is you want to pick out the proper keywords.

You will want to use a site like Merchantwords.com to get an estimate of which words are searched the most.

Depending on your risk aversion, you will want to pick the words that go best with your keyword strategy (more on keyword strategies).

But for the most part you will pick the keywords that are searched the most.

Number Three.

In regards to PPC strategy…

You will find if your product is already ranking for the term you are bidding on, your listing may show up twice.

This will increase your chances of being chosen by potential customers.

Also, when your product begins getting chosen for the keywords you bid for, you will rise in ranking.

This is essentially the third thing, double up on your keyword optimization.

Put your chosen keywords in your listing, title, and back office keyword section then bid on those keywords in your Amazon PPC campaigns.

For more insight, please watch corresponding video.

Winning PPC Strategies

Before PPC

You will need to optimize the three listing elements below. You have to be seen as a true competitor to get the click. When you utilize PPC, nine times out of ten, you are putting yourself up against the very best Amazon has to offer. So, you have to measure up in some capacity, to get the click. This can come in the form of a decent review count, better rating, or outstanding photos.

  • Photos
  • Reviews
  • Rating

If you would like to know some additional listing optimization tips or learn secret places keywords are tracked see the note below.

Keyword Research

The first step to any kind of pay-per click campaign is to collect keywords. You can use all the tools listed here, some are free others are not, to find keywords to throw into your campaign.

Goal: You want to collect up to 200 Relevant Keywords Per Campaign

Strategy 1: The Auto-Campaign Keyword Strategy

This strategy is geared for beginners in a product space. You can use this strategy to not only find keywords, but determine which keywords are the absolute most profitable when it comes to your product.

  • Run an Automatic campaign
  • Run your own manual campaign concurrently with keywords from Merchantwords and other sources
  • Let both run for 5 days
  • End the Automatic Campaign
  • Move the most successful keywords from the automatic campaign over to a manual campaign

If you choose to you can use this strategy to find your best keywords, then use strategy two to optimize your campaign further.

Strategy 2: The Streamlined PPC Strategy

It is rare you would start with this strategy, unless your product has very few keywords that could lead to it.  This strategy can be used to optimize campaigns with a ton of keywords, so you can focus your money on the keywords bringing in the most profits.

  • Max bid of $2.00 per click on all your keywords
  • Increase your daily budget, BUT lower cost per click as days go on (Amazon wants to spend your money)
  • Move up the daily budgets of the keywords that are most profitable gradually

For more insight, please watch corresponding video.

How Do You Maximize Keyword Relevancy on Amazon PPC?

If you haven’t already, check out the “How Can I Make the Most Out of Amazon PPC?” video(second video on this article).

Essentially, its the 3rd part to that answer.

You’ll want to both bid on your desired keyword and put that keyword in your listing

The result is…your product may show up twice on the page when your desired keyword is searched increasing your chances of being picked…and if your product begins getting sales through this keyword you will receive a bump in the ranking as well.

Amazon FBA Guide Amazon Product Launch Amazon Verified Purchases

Amazon Verified Purchases and Reviews – The Real Deal

I have a ton of people messaging me every day saying that the reviews they get from their promotions are coming up as unverified purchased reviews.  The reason reviews are showing up as unverified is a result of the “October 2016 Reviews Update.”

Amazon Verified Purchase Reviews

Before the October 2016 Review Update, an Amazon product review would show up with an Amazon Verified Purchase Tag if the reviewer had bought the product on the Amazon platform.

As it stands now, currently if a person receives a discount for more 50% off, the review will not show up as a Verified Purchase Review.  Amazon did this so that people would put stock in their “Verified Purchase Reviews.”

So what’s the solution here…

DO NOT PANIC!

Verified Purchase Reviews, at this point, are just nice to have.  You will find that average customers do not care!  Also, why should they? In the current state of Amazon, they cannot tell if the person got a product at a discount or not.  For all they know, the person who left the review purchased the product elsewhere re-encountered it on Amazon and decided to write a review.

Most customers only look at the number of reviews.  Reviews are still the most important factor next to the professionalism of your first product and the title.

The quantity of feedback or social proof still outweighs every factor when it comes to your listing is more important.

So keep launching and keep pushing for reviews.
