What Criteria Does Amazon Use to Calculate BSR?

There is a lot of incorrect information when it comes to this question.
The most important misconception that isn’t true is…your rank is determined by your review count.

Rank is Determined By…Sales!

Sales you receive in relation to the other products in your category.For instance, if for some reason every product in your main category didn’t sell one unit.Buy your product sold 1; you’d be the number 1 bestseller in the category.
Rank is simply your sales record from the past 24-48 hours in comparison with everyone else’s’ in the category.

What Podcasters and Gurus Get Wrong About Amazon FBA

Many people are over-complicating Amazon. Do not let countless articles, podcasts, and webinars confuse you. Honestly, if I had a podcast, it would be one episode. This is going to sound crazy but when it comes to Amazon only two factors matter.

That’s right, only two factors determine your product’s success on Amazon everything else is optional.

2 Factors Determine your Success

Amazon comes down to two factors you hack these two factors, and you have a winning product this course /article teaches you what they are and how to hack for maximum results with what I call launch logic.

These two factors will also allow you to determine the level of competition you will face with your product. You will be able to determine how fast you will get organic sales, how much money you will have to spend before you even source a product. It’s like seeing the matrix for the very first time. BSR: Best Seller Rank

Gurus and podcasters talk about it all day. Services offered to help give you a boost! Let me tell you BSR doesn’t matter as much as they make it out. BSR only represents how much a product is selling in relation to other products at a particular time. So, yeah these services can give you a boost, but if you haven’t hacked the two factors I spoke about earlier, your product’s BSR will snap right back to where it started.

Testing

All these guys seem cool telling you to buy something generic o Aliexpress, set up Amazon pay-per-click service, see if you get sales. If you do the product is a winner, and you can spend more money on it.

You could go through that process, but 9.9 times out of ten you have wasted your time and money. Amazon is the world’s biggest library of products, a database; this means the testing is already done for you. Just go back to that BSR those podcasters love telling you about, while it is only a measure of sales a product has had in relation to others at a given time, it is an accurate measure of demand for a product. A product can reach a certain level of BSR if customers don’t want it. The BSR is all you need to determine if a product is worthy to source or not. If a BSR for all versions of a product is low (1–4000), then you know that many people want it. If the BSR for any product is below 4,000, you know this product is a safe bet.

Amazon Pay-Per-Click Platform

This is the biggest topic students ask me. Podcasters, gurus, and experts treat PPC like a sales machine.” Just put up a product, throw some keywords in, and watch the sales come in.” Any experienced seller will tell you this simply isn’t the case, I’ve had students burn 100’s of dollars and get frustrated as to why it is not working as so-and-so said. The issue isn’t that PPC is flawed, it’s not your keywords, or how much you bid… It comes back to those two factors that determine your success, one in particular. If you do not hack that factor, PPC’s not going to work for you.

Bonus: Amazon Arbitrage and Textbook Trade-in

Let me first state Amazon arbitrage and textbook trade-in are an excellent way to make money ON THE SIDE. If you want a business an asset, you can pass on or sell a private label brand is the way to go.

It’s far easier to create a product once then having to keep searching for discounted product you can resell. Think of Coke, the very same product more or less for over ten years. Take a chance and truly invest in yourself by building a brand.

Should I Have a Shopify Store?

You can…there is nothing explicitly wrong with having a Shopify store for your product, but when starting out you shouldn’t make it a priority. It’s not necessary to make sales, but when you get ranking and start getting reviews there’s nothing wrong with it.
If you decide to…try not to make it a real priority until you are maybe four to five ranked products in.

Should I Build A Site for my Amazon FBA Products?

The major difference between a Shopify store and Amazon is that Amazon already has the traffic with your Shopify store you’ll have to spend money to get people to even peer in, for a chance to buy from you.

What are the Best Product Categories for Amazon FBA Beginners?

What are the Best Product Categories for Beginners?

Those categories are going to be the ones that are not gated. Amazon’s gated categories include Health and Beauty. A non-gated category, but a category, I do not recommend Electronics as there are higher defect rates so it’s easier to get bad reviews.

More on the Gated Categories

The gated categories Beauty and Health. You may want to avoid in general because these products costs more to source, and your top competitor likely has 1000s of reviews. Those with smaller budgets simply can’t compete.

The Best Categories

These are going to the be ungated categories…

  • Pet Supplies
  • Baby
  • Home and Kitchen
  • Sports and Outdoors
  • Patio and Lawn
  •  

    These categories have the simplest product types, and can be easily sourced. You’ll find many products are small as well. Just do the bully match method on a popular brand, you’ll find a product in 45 minutes or less!

    What Mistakes Should I Watch Out for When Selling on Amazon FBA?

    I get this question all the time and the truth is that there are 3 big mistakes that can be hard to recover from.

    Mistake 1: Not Confirming Samples

    You always want to confirm if you’re samples are high quality.
    If it’s too expensive to ship to your home (for non-US) have an inspection service do it for you.
    In addition, to this have your first shipment sent to your home or to an inspection service like FBAinspection.com

    Mistake 2: Don’t Forget FNSKU’s

    This goes hand-in-hand with mistake number 1.
    Don’t forget every unit of product you send need an FNSKU sticker applied to your supplier or a company like FBAinspection.com.

    Mistake 3: Not being Mindful of Budget and Launch Logic

    Every student needs to watch Amazon Launch Logic video at least twice. You have to understand to reach your desired revenue good for a product you’ll have to meet a happy medium between rank on the search result pages and review count.

    These numbers depend entirely on your competitors. If you competitor’s average review count is 400 you can’t expect to make a great revenue/sales numbers until you reach around that number.

    Mistake 3: Not being Mindful of Budget and Launch Logic

    This may involve multiple launches and shipments of product. Those with smaller budgets or a very expensive product may not be able to reach that review count for months.

    These are the big 3, if you take note, you’ll be fine.
